To God be the glory that despite the troubles, uncertainties and chaos that threatens mankind across the word in the year that ended, we are not consumed. God willingly granted you and I the grace to see the New Year 2026. The bible says, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not” (Lam.3:22) We are able to joyously cross over to a new year. God has once again exhibited His unchanging faithfulness and lovingkindness with which He deals with His people. Just as He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom-ever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” (Rom.9:15) He has truly fulfilled His word by extending His mercy and compassion to us. He did not go back on His word because He is not a man that He should lie. The merciful, faithful and compassionate God graciously granted us the grace through which we have joyfully come into the new year. Glory be to the King of kings. Your gratitude to God should not be limited to His granting you the grace to see the new year but should be extended to His promise of new things that He will do in your life. Just as He promised the children of Israel, (Isaiah.43:18-19) He is saying you should forget the hardship and the sufferings of the past years and focus on the new things He is going to do concerning you in the new year. His promise to make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert is assurance that He will not only take away all the trouble situation of the past, but He will also make you to recognize Him as the one that can provide solution when all hope seems lost. A promise of hope, restoration and encouragement for the journey of the new year. God is faithful to fulfill His promise. The Bible says, “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, He cannot deny Himself.” (2 Tim.2:13) He will surely do a new thing that will glorify His name in your life in this new year. Acknowledging the fact that most of the troubles encountered by the children of Israel in the Old Testament were ways by which God disciplines them for their disobedience to Him. It may not be wrong therefore to conclude that the current troubles of the world may also be God’s disciple to correct the world. History shows that the Israelites behave better after every discipline. It affirms the fact that God’s discipline is done in love for the benefit of His people. (Prov.3:12) His discipline is always done in love for the profit of His people that they may be partakers of His holiness. (Heb.12:10b) Holiness is obedience to the word of God and staying away from activities that can lead to sin. Holiness helps one to find favour in the Lord and with others. The Bible says, “But Daniel purpose in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the King’s delicacies” (Daniel.1:8a) He did not defile himself in obedience to God’s law concerning clean and unclean food. (Lev.11:1-47) God brought Daniel into the favour and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs because he operates in holiness. (Daniel.1:8-9) His act of holiness earns him God’s Excellent Spirit. The scripture says, “Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him,” (Daniel.6:3a) God favour Daniel with excellent spirit because he did not defile himself. He was living a life of holiness. Brethren, endeavour to live a life of holiness in the new year that you may obtain excellent spirit through which you can find favour in the Lord and with others, and experience breakthrough in both your spiritual and physical life. Shalom Evangelism Jesus Christ is the power and wisdom of God. Give your life to Him and be partaker of the power and wisdom of God. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
