Do not be weary in doing good

‘Good’ is described as something that is admirable, pleasing, and having positive qualities according to moral standards or religious beliefs. It is something done for the good of person or group of persons to benefit them. Doing good is also an act of doing that which glorifies God who has shown man what is good. A good which comes from man’s heart as shown by God. The Bible says, “He has shown you O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah.6:8) God through prophet Micah revealed to the Israelites the hope of restoration that awaits them after they must have served their punishment occasioned by the abusive treatment of the poor by the rich. The requirement for the hope of restoration for them was to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God. Those are goods that come from the heart. To do justly requires dealing with fellow man with love and mercy. Walking humbly with God entails being led by the will of God. No wonder the scripture frowns and counted as sin to those that knows how to do good but refuses to do so. The Bible says, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin. (James. 4:17) It is sin because it is direct violation of God’s righteous demand. The attitude of those that refused to visit the orphans and widows in their troubled time was regarded as sin, because it was a religious obligation to visit such people for the purpose of extending help to them. (James. 1:27) Most Christians have continued in this type of sin because of their lack of willingness to do that which they know should be done. When one fails to do good when he has both the opportunity and time to do so, then he sins. The time and opportunity mean doing the good when it is most needed and most required by the recipients. The Bible says, “Do not withhold good from those whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.” (Prov.3:27) The Bible makes it clear that doing good is what God desires from His people. Doing good without expecting return from the beneficiary. Such act is pleasing to God because it glorifies Him. A good that is done as thanksgiving for the grace of God in one’s life. The Bible describes Christians as God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus anew for good works and not by good work. (Eph.2:10) It means one is not to do good to gain salvation, but to do good because one has gained salvation and one is already in Christ. Brethren, I urge you to encourage yourself not to grow weary in doing good but to be zealous and not to be lazy or be discouraged in doing that which brings glory to the Lord. For in due season you shall reap if you do not loose heart. (Gal.6:9) You are called to love and serve others as Jesus did. Not only that you should not grow weary in doing good, but you should also do so as the opportunity avail itself, and more importantly, to fellow brethren in Christ. (Gal.6:10) Remember, you have no excuse because God has shown what He requires of you, to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with Him. May the good Lord help every believer not to be weary in doing good in Jesus mighty name. Amen Evangelism Spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ is one of the good you should not be weary in doing.
