Confess Christ before Men

Jesus says, “Also, I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God.” (Luke.12:8) It literally mean to acknowledge Christ on earth that one may be acknowledged by Him in heaven. To confess Christ before men is more than words that often give only lip service to God. It is about accepting Jesus as the Lord and Saviour and living a life that proclaims one to be a true follower of Jesus Christ through behaviour that is committed to the ideals of the kingdom of God and living a lifestyle that glorifies the name of Christ both in words and in deed. Not allowing the conduct of a morally perverse environment in which one lives to affect either one’s attitude or behaviour, but to live a life that in all things showing oneself to be a pattern of good works, in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility and sound speech that cannot be condemned even by the people of the world. (Titus.2:7-8) Above all, to confess Christ before men is to bravely live for Jesus despite all the worldly intimidation. Apostle Paul explains, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” (Eph.2:8) He is saying that in view of the fact that God’s grace was poured out for believer’s salvation, believers’ response is to obediently comply with the directive of God who has offered the grace through Christ’s crucifixion, burial and resurrection by which they are made alive. (Eph.2:5) That through salvation, believers now have the power of the Holy Spirit which empower them to resist wrong behaviour and confess Christ. The message of Jesus though a message of peace, causes tension between those who want to do right and those who want to continue to walk in darkness. It divides the righteous from the unrighteous and bring conflict of ideas in the world that is infested with all manners of ungodliness. The Bible says, “He will be a sanctuary, but a stone of stumbling and a block of offense to both the house of Israel...” (Isaiah.8:14a) The message is sanctuary to those that believe and abide by the word and a stone of stumbling block and rock of offense to those who refuse to believe in Him. It is therefore imperative that believers who the message is sanctuary should gladly and willingly confess Christ. The main ungodliness that causes people including believers not to be able to confess Christ to men amongst many others is the love of the things of the world, such as concentration on worldly system, material possession and selfish desires. The Bible says, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in Him.” (1 John.2:15) It means therefore that whoever does not have the love of the Father cannot confess Christ before men. Brethren, we are now aware that acknowledging Christ on earth will result in Him acknowledging us in heaven. So, let us confesses Him before men, that He will confess us before the angels in heaven. Knowing that the world and its lust is passing away, and it is those who does the will of God will abide forever, (1 John.2:17) it is reasonable that we do His will by confessing Him before men. May the Spirit of God in us help us to obey in Jesus mighty name. Amen Evangelism Jesus loves you. He is knocking at the door of your heart. Allow Him to come in today. May God bless you as you do so. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
