The word of God, “But the just shall live by his faith” (Hab.2:4b) means that the just shall enjoy deliverance and abundance of life by his faith even in times of tribulations. It is through faith that Salvation is received, and one is justified. Faith is the foundation upon which all who would be saved must approach God. The just shall live by his faith is a statement of confidence in the heart of the gospel which strengthens those who as a result of their being made justified by God through faith in Christ, are sustained by their continuous trust and reliance in God. The Bible says, “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” (Rom.1:17) It is an expression that the person who has been made righteous by God lives and survives by faith regardless of the turbulent moment. He trusts God in everything and in every situation. Prophet Habakkuk who is overwhelmed by the iniquity and violence that he sees among his people, asked God why He allow the situation to persist. “Why do you show me iniquity and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me. (Hab.1:3) God’s response is that the righteous among those that will remain after the predicted attack of the foreign armies against Judah as a result of their iniquity and violence will be delivered and live abundance life as a result of their faith in Him. (Hab.2:4) “By faith” means believers faith in the faith of Jesus. Faith emphasized the individual’s total reliance on God. One is not justified by mere perfect obedience of the law but by faith. The Bible says, “But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith” (Gal.3:11) That does not mean that one is not obligated to be obedient to the will of God. Obedience to the will of God must be absolute in every detail and must be continuous. The writer of the Book of Hebrew wrote to the Jewish believers who were considering reversing their course back to Judaism as a result of state persecution that God has no pleasure in anyone drawing back. They were reminded that those who are justified through faith will depend on the grace of God and those who would stand just before God must trust in Him to save them by His grace. He says, “Now the just shall live by faith, but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” (Heb.10:38) it is by the grace of God that came the faith to believe Jesus and then salvation is received. “Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Rom.3:24) To be justified means to be declared righteous in the sight of God. The sinner who believes in Christ receives God’s gift of righteousness. (Rom.5:17) Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Biblical faith is based on evidence. Let us therefore walk by faith as evidence of our salvation to continually trust, rely, and depend on God that we may continue to enjoy deliverance and abundance of life even in times of tribulation. Remember, you have been justified, you ought to live by faith. Evangelism Express you believe and profess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, and you will be saved. Rev.
