“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Prov.3:6) Prior to that passage, the word of God says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Prov.3:5) To trust in the Lord with all one’s heart is to accept Christ as one’s personal Saviour and Lord and be devoted to Him with all one’s heart and mind and actively involve Him in every aspect of one’s life. Not to lean on one’s understanding is to involve Jesus in one’s thoughts and decisions at all times. To always allow His will to be done. The second aspect, “He shall direct your path” is a promise that when one acknowledges Him, He shall guide one in the right ways and clear obstructions which will enable one to move forward without hinderance in every endeavour of life, including guiding one towards righteousness and holiness. To acknowledge Christ in all one’s ways is to be in constant fellowship with Him as someone who is in love with a loyal heart and with a willing mind. Loving Him requires keeping His commandments. Keeping His commandments is the evidence of one’s love for Him. Jesus says, “If you love Me, keep my commandments.” (John.14:15) It means to love God requires being obedient to His commandments. It means therefore that to acknowledge Christ in all one’s way requires obedience to His commandments at all times and in every situation. It also involves one to fear Him. Not the fear that is caused by sin like that of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, where Adam says, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid...” (Gen.3:10a) but the fear that enables one to shun evil like that of Joseph who says, “How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” (Gen.39:9b) Fear that enables one to pursue righteousness and holiness. Fear that brings blessing to the children of God. The Bible says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (prov.9:10) To acknowledge Christ in all one’s way involves the fear of the Lord. To acknowledge Christ in all one’s ways includes true worship to God. True worship of a lifestyle of sincere devotion rather than mere outward ritual. A worship that is done in spirit and in truth (John.4:24) standing on the word of God. Worship in which one is not anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer, supplication with thanksgiving, one’s requests are made known to God. (Phil.4:6) To acknowledge Christ in all one’s way also involves serving God through others. To serve God is to use one’s personal talent and resources to love and serve others to the glory of God. Service that goes beyond mere helping others but participating in the purpose and the will of God. The Bible considers serving others as sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice which is well pleasing to God. (Phil.4:18) Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, you acknowledge Christ in all your ways when you put your trust in Him and actively involve Him in every aspect of your daily living. When you fear Him, obey His commandments, truly worship Him and serve others. He shall surely fulfil His promise to direct your paths in the right ways by clearing every obstruction that may want to hinder you to move forward in every endeavour of life including guiding you towards righteousness and holiness. May the God the Holy spirit place in your heart a burning desire to acknowledge Christ in all your ways in a greater way than ever before in Jesus excellent name I pray. Amen Evangelism Telling somebody about the truth of Jesus Christ is a way to acknowledge Him in your ways. Tell someone today about the love of Jesus. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
