Renewing your Spiritual strength

To renew one’s spiritual strength is a process of intentionally deepening one’s relationship with God. It is to grow spiritually. Notwithstanding that believer’s sin has been washed by the blood of Jesus and has received the gift of the Spirit of God, he is daily under intensive pressure to conform with the world value. And for him to continually overcome the world pressure, he has to regularly have his spirit renewed. The word of God says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah.40:31) Those that would renew their spiritual strength will not be disappointed. The Psalmists says, create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm.51:10) David’s prayer shows that it is an individual responsibility to strive to maintain passionate relationship with God and man. It is not a one-time event but an ongoing process that requires intentional effort. Once the spiritual strength is renewed, the mind is transformed. The Bible says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Rom.12:2) A renewed mind does not engage his thinking in those things that would divert his life from the eternal purpose of God. The fact that one possesses the Holy Spirit does not guarantee one’s spiritual growth, because the Holy Spirit works in cooperation with the individual choice. Holy Spirit leads believer; He does not push him. He empowers; He does not overpower. One renews his spiritual strength through total submission of his heart to the direction of the holy Spirit. He sets his mind on things above, not on things on the earth. (Col.3:2) His mind and thoughts are set on things that pertain to Jesus and things that are important to God. He always presents his body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. All the above intentional efforts are achievable through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit and fervent prayer to God. To study the Bible requires the illumination of the Holy Spirit because the word of God is spirit. (John.6:63) The word of God transforms the mind. Holy Spirit helps one in one’s weakness to pray to God. (Rom.8:26) God Himself is Spirit (John.4:24a) Therefore the help of the Holy Spirit is strongly required in the renewal of one’s spiritual strength. The Bible says, “But now you yourselves are to put off all these” (Col.3:8a) The Bible is in essence saying that it is an individual responsibility to put off behaviour that proceed from an evil heart such as anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy and filthy language. An individual that wants his spiritual strength renewed, shall by himself put off behavioural practice that is based on the world value. Dear brethren, spiritual strength renewal is all about striving to becoming like Jesus, the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. The renewal efforts will not stop until we meet with Him face to face when He appears again. May we never fail nor falter as we strive to be like the image of the invisible God in Jesus mighty name. Amen Evangelism Jesus is the image of the invisible God; He loves you and is willing to save more people. Tell someone about the Goodnews today. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
