The Bible says, “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who trust in Him.” (Nahum.1:7) How does the Lord know those who trust in Him? He knows them through the seal of salvation and their Christ-like attitude. The Scripture says, “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His.” (2 Tim.2:19a) They are those who have been justified by faith and not by the deed of the law. (Rom.3:28) They are those whose character aligns with the Lord’s character through faith. He knows them because they are the ones who have determined to walk in the direction of His word. Those who trust in the Lord are those who having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience. (Luke.8:15) Those who accept the commandments of Jesus Christ and obey them because they accepted Him as the Son of God. They are the ones who are drawn to God, and they know and fear God. They are the ones Jesus refers to as His sheep that knows Him. He says,” I am the good shepherd, and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.” (John.10:14) God does not select certain individuals who will be drawn to Him. He provided the Gospel in order to draw all men to Himself because He wants everybody to be saved. The Bible says, “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality but shows in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” (Acts.10:34-35) God calls all men unto salvation without special consideration to class of people in the society. He accepts any person who will be moved to obey His commandments and do good works towards one’s fellow men. it is however the responsibility of every individual to have a willing attitude to come to Jesus and put his trust in Him. Individual must be of the disposition to submit to the will of the Lord in obedience to His commandments. To submit to the will of God is the foundation of trusting God. It means to acknowledge the sovereignty of God and to totally surrender to His desire. When one totally surrenders, it enables one to act in a manner that aligns with the desire of God and become obedient to His command. It is to do away from self-will and follow the example of our Lord Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane where He was so emphatic in His prayer that the will of God the Father be done and not His own will. (Luke.22:42) Submitting to the will of God help one not to rely on one’s understanding but to in every situation seek divine direction, knowing that God’s wisdom is superior to human understanding. Praying to the Lord in the name of Jesus is also an expression of trust in the Lord’s ability to do what man cannot do. It is asking for help from the Lord who can do all things. One who nothing is difficult for Him to do. Prayer expresses the trust that the Lord will answer the prayer because He has said so. He says, “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (John.14:14) The prayer must however be made in faith not in doubt. (James.1:6) Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I want to believe that you have received the seal of salvation. Do you have noble and good heart with an open mind that continuously and consistently listens to the word of God and believe? Are your daily conduct and your Christian journey guided by the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ? Let us be honest with ourselves as we answer the questions and pray to God to help us where we need to make amends. Shalom Evangelism Salvation is a way of submitting to God’s will. Tell someone today about the will of God that wants all men to be saved. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
