Every believer in Christ is sealed by the Holy Spirit

God has made every provision for those whom He has redeemed through the death of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. One of such wonderful provision is the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts.2:38) with which believers are sealed. Apostle Paul dwelled on the Holy Spirit as a gift of God in his letter to the Christians in Ephesus when he says, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.” (Eph.1:13) What a far-reaching precaution God has taken in order to protect those that believed in His Son by sealing them with God the Holy Spirit. The sealing of believer with the Holy Spirit serves as mark of ownership. The Holy Spirit Himself as the seal serves as guarantee of God’s commitment to complete His work in us. “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” (2 Cor.1:21-22) The seal as a guarantee is to the extent that no one can break the hold of Jesus Christ on believer’s soul. This is proffered by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He says, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” (John.10:27-28) What a loving God. The “desired Christians” may claim to be Christians even when they are yet to give their lives to Christ, the seal by the Holy Spirit is the solid foundation that enables God know His own. The scripture says, “Nevertheless, the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” (2 Tim.2:19) This scripture is reminding those of us that are sealed by the Holy Spirit, that we are not supposed to and should not be involved in sin. The Holy Spirit is giving to us to teach, guide, counsel and remind us about Jesus Christ and the expectation that we live a Christ-like life as children of God. Brethren, having this knowledge that the seal of the Holy Spirit guarantees us that we are children of God, it becomes pertinent that we listen to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit in our Christian journey. We should not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom we were sealed for the day of redemption. We should be mindful that our spiritual life depends solely upon God the Holy Spirit.
