This word of encouragement from God, the creator of the heaven and the earth “Fear Not” is said in the Bible multiple times. The word is to encourage the people of God to overcome the antics of the Satan. Fear is one of the antics of the Satan targeted at believers to deceive or frighten them. Why at believers? Because they are the ones that have been liberated from the kingdom of Satan into the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ, so, Satan wants them back in his kingdom of darkness. But God says, “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah.41:10) Fear is described as “False Evidence Appearing Real” or “Fantasies, Experiences Appearing Real”. What is important to note here is that, Fear is false and not real. Many times, we find ourselves in situation that we are not familiar with or situation that is discomforting to us. What Satan does at that moment is to begin to suggest all sort of negative thoughts that are not real into our heart to create fear in us and separate us from the love of God. Let us see the children of Israel at the Red Sea. They got to the Red sea and it appeared they were finished because they could not see alternative route to continue their journey. Though the children of Israel started the journey with boldness (Ex.14:8) but they became very afraid when they saw the Egyptian marched after them. (Ex.14:10) They became afraid not because they could not see alternative way, but because of their imagination of what will become of them in the hand of Pharaoh if they were recaptured. They have forgotten all the wonderful works of God regarding their freedom from Egypt. They were not only afraid they began to apportion blame to Moses and even to God for their freedom from Egypt. The same way you and I behave when we allow fear to overcome us. Let us believe the word of God. The word of God is real. When He says “fear not I am with you”, He is truly with you. The scripture strengthened that fact with the word that says “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind” (2 Tim.1:7) When we believe the word of God, there will be sound mind that enables us to think right, make good judgement, and the ability to understand and make right decisions. God has not only promised to help us overcome our fears, He has also empowered us with the gift of His Spirit. Brethren, let it be known that Fear is the antics of Satan to separate believer from the love of God. So, when the situation of fear comes, remember and trust the word of God, “Fear not, for I am with you …” (Isaiah.41:10) He will surely fulfil His promise, He will strengthen and help you, and you shall overcome the situation. Evangelism Please tell someone today about the love of Jesus Christ that can help such person overcome his or her fears. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
