Let the will of God prevail

“Oh, My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done” (Matt.26:42) This was the conclusion reached by Jesus Christ when it came to the point that He who is holy and knew no sin have to get in contact with the sins of mankind. Considering the irritation of sin, Jesus wished He could avoid the cup of sorrow of sin associated to His death. But He consented to drink from the cup, because that was the will of His Father. King Hezekiah according to the Bible, recorded remarkable feet as one of the kings that followed the way of God. The scripture says, “And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done.” (2 Kings.18:3) Not only that, he held fast to the Lord (2 Kings.18:6) However, he resisted the will of God when he was asked to set his house in order, for he shall die. (2 Kings.20:1) He prayed against the will of God and also expressed his self-righteousness. (2 Kings.20:2-3) For God own sake and for the sake of His servant David, God granted him more fifteen years to live. (2 Kings.20:6) The scripture revealed that the error of Hezekiah in the last fifteen years had a disastrous impact on Judah and to the extent that he became unconcerned about the destiny of his descendants. (2 Kings.20:12-19) When the decision of our Lord Jesus Christ who surrendered His will for the will of God is compared with that of king Hezekiah that insisted on his own will, it pays to let the will of God prevail. Jesus became victorious over suffering, sin and death. He completed His assignment here on earth in human form so diligent that the heaven was glad to receive Him back. Hezekiah ended woefully and hopelessly. Brethren, it is important to let the will of God prevail. When we pray let us end our request with the anticipation that His will be done regarding our request. We should realize that God’s will is not a roadblock, but to give a perfect end. The scripture says “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jer.29:11) It is not difficult for God to put His thought into action concerning His people when given the trust. Our prayer is that, may His will be done in every circumstance of our lives in Jesus mighty name. Amen Evangelism The will of God is for everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost. Tell someone about that truth today. Jesus is waiting to receive that someone. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
