What level of faith it is?

And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith” (Luke.17:5) The apostles were in essence asking the Lord to help their unbelief. Faith is the supernatural ability to believe God without doubt. Faith comes through the word of Christ. (Rom.10:17) The Bible defined Faith as the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Heb.11:1) Aside from Biblical faith which is the true faith, there is also Intellectual Faith called Mental Assent or Head-Faith. Mental assent is the believe based on historical knowledge about God. The type of faith that believes the existence of God, believes that Jesus came to the world and that the Bible is the word of God, but lacked assurance due to no visible evidence. Apostle James describes it as the type of faith the devil has. “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble!” (James.2:19). Apostle Paul explained it as, knowing God but not glorifying Him as God, nor thankful, but became futile in thoughts, and the foolish hearts were darkened. (Rom.1:21) Jesus described it as “No faith”. (Mark.4:40) Biblical faith is the foundation which upholds the believer’s life. It is the assurance and confidence that believers have in God’s Word. A sure conviction concerning things not seen. A faith that originates from the heart, that believes the Word of God and act on the word obediently. It is the one that helps believers live the life of faith and grow in faith. To grow in faith means to grow spiritually, which can only happen as one focusses effort and energy on knowing Jesus Christ’s grace and mercy more and more. The Bible indicates different levels of faith, such as, “No faith” (Mark.4:40), “Little faith” (Matt.8:26), “Great faith” (Luke.7:9), “Dead faith” (James.2:17) among many others. But Jesus made us to know that the level or size of faith does not matter, as one can never have enough. Jesus told His disciples “Because of your unbelief, for assuredly, I say you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from here to there and it will move” (Matt.17:20). It explains the fact that faith that appears small or little to us can accomplish what seems humanly impossible. Biblical faith is the faith required to receive answers to prayers. (Mark.11:24) it is through the faith that one receives miracles. Examples of the facts that miracles were associated with believer’s faith are abounded in the scriptures. (Mark.5:34, Luke.17:19, Acts.3:16) It is the faith that fills one with the knowledge of the will of God in all wisdom and spiritual understanding with which one is able to walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him and be fruitful in every good work. The faith that brings the knowledge of the will God which enables one to persevere through trials and challenges of life and produces patience that makes one count trials and challenges all joy. Brethren, let it be known that the more we focus our efforts and energies on knowing Jesus Christ more and more, the more He will continue to help our unbelief irrespective of the level of our faith. Evangelism In obedience to the Great Commission, please share the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ with someone today. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
