The Bible is the Book containing the Word of God. It is written by the holy men of God as they were inspired by the Spirit of God. The Book is a guide that transforms, heals, and leads one into a deeper relationship with God. It provides answers to both the spiritual and moral conducts of mankind. No wonder the psalmist says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm.119:105) Mankind is much inexperienced to life to be without a guide, Bible is that guide. The Bible as a guide for our spiritual life, is profitable for Doctrine: by which one can know the truth about Christ and it is the truth that sets people free. As a guide for Reproof: by which one become aware of his sinful condition through the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Without conviction of sin there will be no real and lasting rebirth that brings change. As a guide for Correction: by which one learn how to overcome his sinful habits, failures, and weaknesses, putting off the old sinful life-style of the flesh. As guide for Instruction in righteousness: by adapting a lifestyle which includes continuous study of God’s Word, regular prayer, and involvement in a fellowship of true believers. (2 Timothy 3:16) The purpose of all these is that believers may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Tim.3:17) The good work is the high standard of moral conduct and deep relationship with God. Blessing and prosperity is guided by the word of God if we use the word as guideline. This is clearly stated to Joshua when God commissioned him after the death of Moses. The Lord commanded Joshua to work according to the written law. He says, “This Book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua.1:8) Applying the knowledge of the word of God gives the wisdom of God that makes one to be prosperous and have good success. The Bible says it is God who gives the power to get wealth. (Duet.8:17) The power to get wealth is the wisdom required to approach and overcome challenges and break barriers. The wisdom to recognize the needs of mankind and invent or invest to meet such needs as an entrepreneur. The wisdom to seek knowledge that will increase one’s potential as an applicant. The Bible says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James.1:5) Brethren, the application of God’s Word (Bible) into our daily living will assist us in life’s most practical circumstances. The word of God as Lamp gives direction for each step and path. It gives wisdom for our plans. We should not hasten ahead without the Word of God. It is profitable for every aspect of our lives. Evangelism The Bible is the basic and powerful tool we can use to introduce Jesus Christ to the lost. Let us use it today to populate the Kingdom of God. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
