Jesus must be honored

There has been continuous argument among Christians concerning Christmas celebration in relation to the date and the history behind it. This is as a result of the fact that the celebration is not clearly established in the Bible and it was not observed by the early Christians. But that notwithstanding, Jesus Christ deserved to be honored and must be honored. The scripture says, “That all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father...” (John.5:23a). There is no controversy concerning the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is clearly established in the Holy Book. His birth was announced with honor even before He was conceived. (Luke.1:31-35) His conception was announced with honor. (Luke.1:39-42) His birth was announced and celebrated as King that He is, with honor. (Luke.2:11-18) He was honored in death. (Heb.2:9) His burial was done with honor (Matt.27:57-60) His resurrection was announced by the angel with honor. (Matt.28:1-6) The Bible says He received honor from God the Father. (2 Peter.1:17) We must honor Him as we honor God the Father. If we do not honor Him, we do not honor the Father. Jesus Christ is worthy of our worship. Our salvation depends on Him as there is no other condition or qualification. The scripture says, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts.4:12) He has also been given the authority to carry out judgement. (John.5:27) The way to express our honor to Him is when we do what brings honor to His name. He is honored in our lives when we let our conduct be worthy of His gospel. When we truly make Him our Lord and savior and does not seek or depend on another god or power. When we are in obedience to His command which has to do with faithfulness, humility, love, righteousness, affection, generosity etc. And when we let His will be done in our lives. His name will be honored in our lives when we make our existence needful for the people. When we remain and continue with joy all for the progress and joy of the faith. When we realized that it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake. (Phil.1:29) Brethren, as we celebrate Christmas today and even beyond, our goal must be to honor our Lord Jesus Christ. The scripture says, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor.10:31). May the grace to honor our Lord Jesus Christ continue to abide in us now and for ever more. Evangelism Tell someone today that Jesus came to save souls. He will also carry out judgement of the whole world on His return. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
