Do not be envious of evil men

The world is full of all kinds of evil behaviors. The world where riches and wealth not worked for is the order of the day. They call it ‘Wealth Without Work’. Wealth that comes from various kinds of evil activities. The perpetrators cuts across all ages and classes of people. It is however more rampant among the young ones. It has become so rampant that many people including the saved ones, are desiring to join the shameful act. Brothers and sisters, the word of God is telling you and me, “Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them” (Prov.24:1) Solomon did not stop at warning against being envious, he also proffers some words of advice. He says, “Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the Lord all day.” (Prov.23:17) Fear of the Lord means a constant awareness that God is watching and taking stock of everything. It also means the fear of God’s judgement. We are aware of the fact that God is going to give judgement according to our actions. The Bible says, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” (Rev.22:12) That fact is enough to discourage us from desiring to be with the evil men who are engaging in the evil acts. The bible warns further that “Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will increase.” (Prov.13:11) The word of Gold is true. We have truly seen how many of those that have involved themselves in the shameful acts have diminished. Some, the wealth just disappeared. (Easy come, easy go) Some were jailed, some were killed, some disgraced and at the end lose the wealth and riches that were acquired dishonestly. Whereas, those that gathers by labor continue to increase. They do not only increase; they live with the peace and joy of the Lord. A life that finds joy in God and experiences peace with others. From the beginning, God has directed man to labor. “Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” (Gen.2:15) He did not only direct man to labor, He promised also that He will provide all that is required to make the labor a blessing so much that there will be no need to borrow, but instead give to others. (Deu.28:12) Our God is Jehovah Jireh. He will provide for all our needs. Brethren, there is no justification for a child of God to be envious of evil men. It may appear they are having a field day now, but the Bible has told us their end. “For there will be no prospect for the evil man, the lamp of the wicked will be put off” (Prov.24:20) Therefore, do not be envious of them, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Phil.4:19) Amen Evangelism Save someone from the evil men today. Tell the person about the goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
