The Word of God and Believer’s Faith

The Word of God is God, says the scripture. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” (John.1:1) It implies that the cornerstone of the Christian faith is Christ Jesus, who is the Word of God. It is the word of God that connects believer by the grace of God that he receives Salvation. The scripture states further, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing the word of God.” (Rom.10:17) Faith is the act of trusting and believing in God our Lord Jesus Christ. The same word of God that gave faith is necessary to foster the growth from saving faith, to more faith and then much faith. It is no secret that many brethren may not have had more faith than what is required for salvation. Because they seem to lack the confidence to go to God in prayers on their own. They go above and beyond to ask their leader for prayers rather than pleading with God on their own. It shows that one might not be able to have the faith to approach the throne of grace confidently until the faith has grown beyond saving faith. Jesus says, the Holy Spirit will teach and help people remember all what He has said. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John.14:26) Brethren, one can only commit words that one is aware of beforehand to memory. No wonder Apostle Paul counselled Timothy to carefully study the word of God, (2 Tim.2:15). The foundation of growing in faith is a well and rightly-divided word of God. "…The words I speak to you are spirit and they are life," declares Jesus. (John 6:63b) Because the word of God is both spirit and life, it imparts life. It transforms believer’s faith into a living faith and empowers him to act on the words just as Jesus Christ did. The word of God sanctifies. Jesus prayed, “sanctify them by Your truth Your word is truth” (John.17:17). One requires living faith to be set apart for God and His holy purpose. Believers can develop from salvation faith to living faith through sanctification by the word of God. Brethren, it is good to set aside time to study the word of God. Studying the word of God is as good as having fellowship with God. The undiluted word of God grows believer’s confidence upon which he can come boldly to the throne of grace, that he may obtain mercy and find grace to assist in time of need. (Heb. 4:16) Evangelism: The scripture says, how shall they hear without a preacher. Let us tell those our friends and neighbours that are yet to know Christ about the love of Christ for them. Rev.
