The Merriam-Webster dictionary defined ‘Adore’ as to worship or honor as a deity or as divine. To worship God is an expression of honoring Him with loving admiration and devotion as the one that deserves highest regard. It is acknowledging the power and wonders of God. Worship is a way of celebrating God for His love. A time to be in mutual relationship with Him. Time to tremble before God as a mark of reverence for Him to show that one belongs to Him. Time to praise His great and awesome name. Time to exalt Him for His holiness. The Psalmist says, “Oh come let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.” (Psalm.95:6) A full worship includes singing praises, joyful shout and thanksgiving (Psalm.95:1-2) It encompasses bowing and kneeling down before God as the maker (Psalm.95:6) Worship entails submission of the spirit, soul and body for the sanctifying work of God. The secrets of the heart are revealed during true worship. (1 Cor.14:25) The key to a truly dynamic worship to God is the Holy Spirit. It is through the indwelling Holy Spirit that believer is connected to God for fellowship. The Holy Spirit empowers believers as He wills even during worship. Jesus Christ during His encounter with the Samaritan woman explained when and how to worship God. Concerning ‘When’, Jesus says, now is the time. Meaning to worship God frequently. Worshiping God is meant to be a full-time activity for the believer. (Psalm.34:1) And the ‘How’, He says in spirit and truth. (John.4:23)” In conclusion He says, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John.4:24) In answering the Samaritan woman’s curiosity about worshiping in synagogue, Jesus explains that the attitude of heart and mind is what matters in worshiping God and not where one worship Him. His explanation indicates that worship should not be mere ceremony but spiritual reality. It also shows that worship must be transparent, sincere and according to biblical mandate. Must be transparent in the sense that Jesus has removed the veil by His death, no new veil should be created in whatever form. Sincere Biblical mandate is to worship the Father in spirit and truth. Brethren, let it be known that we encourage ourselves when we worship God with praises and joyful shout. Worship brings one to the presence of God. It assures that we are not alone. God is always near to those that call on Him. (Psalm.144:18) Worship gives spiritual boldness that sends fear into the heart of the enemy. (2 Chroniccles.20:15-22) The more we worship God, the less control the devil can have over us. There is no doubt that the world is in desperate circumstances at this time, but, let us be determined that in the midst of the desperate circumstances, we continue to keep praising and worshiping God. We should never fail to worship Him. May the God of all creation grant us the grace to worship Him continually even in the midst of the desperate circumstances in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen Evangelism Worship is also service to God. A way to tell others about the beauty and love of Jesus Christ. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
