Believers are being advised against forsaking the assembly of the saints. As members of the Body of Christ, we are encouraged to come together to worship and praise God at a designated location. The scripture says, “Not forsaking the assembling of our-selves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” (Heb.10:25) The word of God is calling attention of some of us that are not steady in attending Church services, even on Worship Days. The Bible passage concluded by reminding us that the Day of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is approaching and we need to get prepared, so that we are not taken unawares. The Bible says we should not sleep as others do, but to watch and be sober. (1 Thess.5:6) Having fellowship with other believers help one to grow in faith and in personal spiritual maturity that comes through the knowledge and practice of the Scripture. Constant encouragement in the midst of a caring fellowship help believers remain faithful as partaker of Christ. Partakers of Christ requires continuing in faith and not merely a one-time experience. Continuing in faith encourages believers to live the life of Christ which he proclaims. Fellowshipping together also encourages and strengthens believers, especially when in suffering. Togetherness through fellowship helps to consider one another by which love is stirred up. When love is stirred up it is counted as good work. (Heb.10:24) Fellowshipping together also in a way help our physical development and healing. This happens when we clap our hands during praise worship, dance to the choir ministration and bend our kneels to pray. The bodily exercise helps our health status and may also provide required healing. The Scripture says, “Therefore strengthen the hand which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.” (Heb.12:12-13) Dear brethren, forsaking the assembly of saints is the beginning of forsaking Christ. Forsaking Christ is known as falling out of faith and it is known as Apostacy. Remember, Christ is the Head of the Body of Chris which is the Church. The Bible warns against willingly forsaking Christ. “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgement, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.” (Heb.10:26-27) Forsaking Jesus Christ is forsaking the forgiveness of sin received through salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Bible strongly calls attention to the degree of punishment meted on those that rejected Moses law in the wilderness (Heb.19:28) and concluded that those that apostate from Christianity will suffer even worse punishment because such person has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace. (Heb.10:29) Knowing that there is no other sacrifice for sin, let us guard against the temptation of turning back from following Jesus for whatever reason. We should not forsake the assembly of our-selves together, for there is no justification for doing so. Evangelism It is time for us to do the work of our Master, the Great Commission. Not the time to sleep. Tell someone about Jesus today. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
