Concerning spiritual gift which is distributed to each believer individually, the Bible tells us that there are diversities of the spiritual gifts from the same Spirit for different ministries. But the same Lord and diversity of activities from the same God who works all in all. The important point is the fact that the spiritual gift is given to each one for the profit All. (1 Cor.12:4-7) The spiritual gift is a supernatural ability given to an individual by the Holy Spirit to be able to do exploit in the service of God. The Holy Spirit bestows the diversity of gift to whom He wills (1 Cor. 12:11) to meet a divine purpose as the occasion demands. It is a gift to meet the desire of God to bless, serve and be active in the life of the people of God. The nine spiritual gifts listed covers all that is required for God to minister through the beholder. The spiritual gift is to be exercised in a manner that build up the whole body of Christ even during corporate worship. Brethren, let us call ourselves to remembrance that God has equipped us with gifts, talents and skills. Let us discover the gift we have received and dedicate such gift to God and begin to use it to serve Him. Whatever talent or skill that is useful for the edification of the saints is a spiritual gift. Let us use it to point people to Jesus Christ. Not to point to yourself or to your church, but to Christ. Use it to spread the gospel and expand the kingdom of God. In addition to serving God, your spiritual gift empowers you to serve others and become a team player. The scripture says, “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter.4:10) Jesus Christ death on the cross for our sin qualifies us to receive the forgiveness of His father. Through Christ death, we have received a new life. He instructed us to go and preach His good news to others for them to be saved also. For that purpose and many more, He gave us the Holy Spirit to prepare and empower us for the job. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witness to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts.1:8) The Holy Spirit thereafter gave us necessary gifts for the assignment. (1 Cor. 12:11) What then is our excuse? Jesus has done so much for us, the little that is expected of us is to help others and not to help Jesus. Having received the gifts, it is not to be hidden, kept redundant or to be misused. The beholder should be as the faithful and wise steward whom Jesus says, “Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes” (Luke.12:43). Jesus rounded up the parable with this very sensitive point that says, “But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required, and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.” (Luke.12:48) It clearly tells us that the beholder of the spiritual gift is going to give accounts of the gift. It is therefore our duties and responsibilities to use the gift of talent and skill to serve the people of God, our neighbors, and our community all to the glory of God. Evangelism The Holy Spirit empowers believers to witness for Christ. So, you and I have no excuse. Tell someone about the good news of Jesus Christ today. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
