Life style required of a Christian

Am I saying Christians are required to live a life style that is different from non-Christians? The answer is Yes. A Christian is expected to consistently live a life style that brings glory to the name of God. The Bible says, “This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind.” (Eph.4:17) A Christian being a new creation in Christ (2 Cor.5:17) is expected to live the same way Christ lived when He was on the earth. That is the expectation of the people of the world also. You hear them say, “And he or she calls himself or herself a Christian.” They sarcastically say this when they rightly or wrongly perceive that a Christian has acted in a manner that is not expected of him or her. Our Lord Jesus Christ explicitly declared that Christians are not of the world. He says, “I have given them Your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world” (John.17:14) It is therefore not surprising that the people of the world also expect Christians to live a life style that is different from theirs. Life style expected of a Christian is the one that is growing in godliness. Life style that honors God and follows the example of Christ. A life style that put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Eph.4:24) The type of life style which Jesus lived on earth that no one could find fault in Him. The Pilate attested to the fact after thorough investigation of Jesus, he says, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, “that you may know that I find no fault in Him.” (John.19:4) Likewise King Herod could not find fault in Him. (Luke.23:15) This is the life style expected of a true Christian. A life style that is pleasing to God. A life style that does not get involve in bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, evil speaking with all malice. But a life that is kind to one another, that is tenderhearted and forgiving as God in Christ forgave believers. Life style that endures patiently with joy, productive in doing good, and grow in the understanding of God. A life style that let the peace of Christ control one’s thoughts and emotions. Brethren, this is another opportunity for us to check our life style as Christians and see if it is according to God’s standard. The scripture says, “But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.” (Gal.6:4) It means that the true way to measure one’s life style is to measure it against God’s standard and not to measure it against the standard of those of someone’s else. God’s standard can simply be found in the Bible. Brothers and Sisters, I beg you in the name of the Lord to begin to make amends where necessary. I will also do same. One can only begin to see one’s errors through studying the Word of God and begin to make amends through payer to God for help. He is the one that can help one to make amends, but one must yield to His word. “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Phil.2:13) He is willing one more time to make you His true image that He created, if only you allow Him. My prayer is that, as you study God’s word and pray to Him, He will be merciful to you and grant you the enablement to continuously live the life style that glorifies His name in Jesus mighty name. Amen Evangelism Jesus Christ is the truth. Believe in Him today, even if it means renewing your faith and receive everlasting peace. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
