Prayer is a way of having personal relationship with God. It is calling or inviting God to one’s situation. It is a free access to draw near the throne of God with confidence which Jesus has made possible for us when He gave Himself as a living sacrifice and made peace through the blood on the cross. The Holy Spirit assures us that Jesus is the access into the presence of God the Father. “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father” (Eph.2:18) It is at the throne that we find mercy and grace. We also find understanding and forgiveness. Rather than thinking about our weakness which may include our sins, our iniquities or unworthiness, the word of God is encouraging us to boldly go to the throne of grace where we can receive mercy. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb.4:16) When we pray, we speak to our Father without reservation as a result of the confidence we have in Jesus. We speak openly and with honesty with ourselves and with God as a child speak with his or her father without fear of judgement. Trusting God that He can release His mercy to help in time of distress and from there, we receive the grace that help to overcome temptation. To confidently approach the throne of grace, we must come with clean and pure heart that has laid aside all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking. (1 Peter.2:1) The heart that is full of assurance of faith in the grace of God which was revealed through the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. The heart that has the understanding that Jesus is the living way through which we can draw near to God because God drew near to us through Jesus. The heart that is without doubt, but believe that God is faithful to fulfil His promise. (Heb.10:22-23) Jesus says, “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John.14:13) If prayer is a way of having personal relationship with God, and it is a way of inviting God to one’s situation, it therefore means that one has to approach the throne of grace on his or her own with the support of his or her indwelling Holy Spirit. If you are the type that depend on someone to pray for you, it is not likely that the person you have engaged to pray for you will be able to speak openly and honestly to God on your behalf. It is only the sick the Bible says the elders should pray for. (James.5:14) Brothers and sisters, you are the one that can speak to God as a child speak to his or her father. He says, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jer.33:3) God is expecting you to come to Him in prayers, He is ready to have you because you are His child. The Bible says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John.1:12) If you are in doubt, the Scripture is giving you the assurance that you are a child of God. Therefore, as a child of God you have the privilege to approach the throne of grace to receive mercy from the heavenly Father. Go confidently with pure heart that is full of assurance of faith in the grace of God. Brethren, do not be deceived, God is the only one that answers prayers. He has given His children open invitation to call on Him. Call on Him today and always, He has promised to answer and He will answer. He is not a man that He should lie. Evangelism Receive Christ into your life today and become a child of God. You are welcome to His presence as you do so. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
