Seek Jesus Christ, not miracle

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt.11:28) This is an invitation from Jesus Christ who is Himself a miracle, telling us to seek relationship with Him rather than seeking signs and wonders. Jesus was Himself a miracle because He was fully God and fully man, which means He is both fully divine and fully human. The Bible attributes Jesus incarnation to “The power of the Highest” (Luke.1:35) The Bible recorded many miracles that Jesus performed during His earthly ministry, and there is no doubt that He is still performing miracles in and through His believers. Miracle is defined as, an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs. Jesus Christ is that divine that intervenes in the affairs that requires divine intervention. It means therefore that it is in Jesus Christ that the divine supernatural power which does the work of miracle lies. No wonder the Bible says, “For in Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily, and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” (Col.2:9-10) So, we are to seek and trust Jesus Christ, in whom the entire power of the Godhead, including the power to do miracles dwells. Brethren, there are dangers inherent in seeking miracles instead of seeking Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrine of demons.” (1 Tim.4:1) It is not news anymore that there are fake miracles, carried out by fake prophets to deceive gullible believers who are out there seeking for miracles. Christians are not meant to be miracle seekers, but one that is fully rooted in Jesus Christ. Above all, Jesus says, miraculous signs will follow those who believe. (Mark.16:17-18) He was referring to the power and authority given to believers through the Holy Spirit to do great things and to help him overcome worldly challenges. This is corroborated by the word of God that says, it is the same Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead that dwells in the believer. (Rom.8:11). The power of that same Spirit can provide divine intervention, bring about spiritual renewal, the ability to overcome difficulties, give strength at the time of weakness, including the believer’s resurrection when Jesus comes back the second time to take us to Himself. Dear beloved, let us therefore be wary of the way we seek miracles to avoid becoming victim of the fake prophets. The Bible says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John.4:1) Let us instead, be resilient in seeking Jesus Christ. Seek Him through His word, through prayers and through praises and worship. It is in Jesus Christ one can receive the supernatural power to overcome every crisis that may come his way. Shalom Evangelism Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
