Do all things to the glory of God

Jesus Christ’s suffering and His death on the Cross was not only for mankind salvation but also to the glory of God. The Bible says, Jesus lifted up His eyes and spoke these words, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You.” (John.17:1) It implies that Jesus gave glory to God the Father for carrying out the plan of redemption which showed the love of God towards mankind, while God glorifies Jesus for going to the cross and His resurrection. It proofs the fact that Jesus did not die for His own glorification but to the glory of God. No wonder that Apostle Paul advised the brethren in Corinth, to do all to the glory of God in whatever they do. (1 Cor.10:31) This is because it means complete submission to the will of God. It also expresses the supremacy of God. To do all things to the glory of God means to do things for the purpose of pleasing, praising and thanking God in whatever one does, rather than seeking glorification from men or giving glory to men. It is also a way to emulate Jesus Christ who laid down His life to please God as the agent to carry out God’s plan of redemption without seeking glory for Himself. Glorifying God is an expression that recognizes God as the source of all things. As explained by Apostle Paul, glorifying God includes pleasing men and forfeiting one’s profit for the sake of the gospel. He says, “Just as I also, please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of many, that they may be saved.” (1 Cor.10:33) A Christian can do all things to the glory of God when his life is given in entirety to God, the only one Lord, by presenting his body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God. (Rom.12:1) When he does not conduct himself in a manner that would dishonor God, but a conduct that portrays obedience to the Lord, walking in all the commandments and ordinances blameless. (Luke.1:6) When his behavior is in thanksgiving for all that God has done through His grace in his life and he can happily say, but by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace towards me was not in vain, yet not I but the grace of God which was with me. (1 Cor.15:10) Expressing the grace of God in all his achievements, successes and even failures. When he behaves in a manner that put others first, not seeking his own. Brethren, the totality of your Christian life as a son or daughter of God is to manifest the nature of Christ in your life. To exhibit His character in all that you do as His representative on earth. Therefore, He requires that you live in a way that all your words and deeds are done with the intention to glorify God. The Scripture says, “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Col.3:17) Every of your words and actions should be done for God’s honor and to that which is beneficial to those around you, that God may be glorified in you. Evangelism It is the will of God that no one should perish. Come to Jesus Christ today and you will be saved. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
