Unpleasant situation occurs in this world as part of human existence. When it appears, that one is not meeting the demands of life as expected, leading to uncertainty about one's purpose in life. Then, that someone begins to develop a feeling of being forgotten by God. He becomes overwhelmed not because of the situation but because of his perception or belief about the situation. It consequently leads to doubt in that person’s mind about the existence of God and God's love. Then comes the satanic feeling that lacks Faith in the promises of God. But here I am reminding you, God says, He will not leave nor forsake you. He says further that you should be strong and of good courage. (Deut.31:6) To 'feel forgotten' is a mere feeling, it is not real. It is because of corrupted mind. Remember, the mind of man is a battle ground, where decisions are processed and made. Once it is corrupted by Satan it brings out thoughts that are contrary to God's will and promises. The Bible makes us to know that the flesh lust against the Spirit, and the Spirit lust against the flesh, they are contrary to one another. (Gal.5:17) Therefore, one's action is dependent on which one gain control of the mind. Once the person’s flesh (which is sinful) gain control, the person is overtaking by selfish ambition (Gal.5:20) But if it is the Spirit of God that gain control, the person’s focus will be on the love of God, he will continue to experience the peace of the Lord, and will be filled with joy that would enable him to persevere during the unpleasant situation instead of feeling forgotten. (Gal.5:22) He will see and focus on Jesus Christ as the solution to the unpleasant situation rather than focusing on the situation. The truth of the matter is that God has not forgotten or abandoned you. He deeply knows you even in your feeling of being forgotten. The feeling of been forgotten is that of the devil to create fear in you and keep you in slavery. But, the word of God is saying, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name, you are mine" (Isaiah.43:1) If you have been redeemed, and you are truly of God, you have God’s Spirit which is spirit of boldness in you. The Bible says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind." (2 Tim. 1:7) The spirit empowers you not to fulfil the lust of the flesh. (Gal.5:16) It implies that when you walk in the Spirit, you will have sound mind and be able to rediscover the love of God and His faithfulness for your life, so much that you will be able to approach His throne to seek for help in time of need to overcome any unpleasant situation in this world. Dear friends, I encourage you to strongly believe that God has not forgotten you. Hear the word of assurance from God as spoken to His people of Israel. Because He is still the same God of now, the word is by extension word of assurance to you too. He says, "Can a woman forget her nursing Child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you." (Isaiah.49:15) He is saying, even if a nursing mother forgets her nursing child who she has compassion for, He God, will not forget you. He will not forget you because of His love for you and because He has inscribed you on the palm of His hand. Remember, He came to lay down His life for you as a selfless act of love. Greater love has no one than this. He has not forgotten you. He will not forget you. Evangelism For you to be truly of God, you must accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour and your Lord. Do that today, and it shall be well with you. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
