“And you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deut.4:29b) To diligently seek God is to intentionally and deliberately seek Him from one’s heart and soul with hope and certainty without doubt. To consistently be in the presence of God with undivided devotion that requires wholehearted commitment. It is different from going to God to ask for favour or help. Seeking God is an expression of love for God who first loved man. It is to focus one’s heart on those things that are above and beyond this world. (Col.3:2) Not only to think about the things above, but also to seek them. It is about setting one’s thoughts and desires toward the heavenly realities and meeting spiritual goals by making God’s rule and righteous living the highest priority. The action of Mary Magdalene regarding her search for the body of Jesus describes how to diligently seek God. Mary came to the tomb where Jesus was buried. The Bible says, Mary went to the tomb early in the morning while it was still dark. Meaning that she had the though in her heart throughout the night about how to pay a visit to the tomb to take care of the dead body or to take it away. (John.20:15) She got to the tomb, she could not find Jesus’s dead body, and she reported the missing body to the disciples. Two of the disciples followed her to the tomb and confirmed the incident. Mary refused to leave the tomb site even when the two disciples left. She stood by the tomb weeping and inquiring where the body could be. (John.20:11-18) She intentionally and deliberately seek to know the whereabout of the body of Jesus. Glory be to God, Jesus who had risen from the dead appeared to Mary. She became the first to see the risen Lord and to announce His resurrection. How can one diligently seek God now? One of the sure and trusted ways to seek God now, is through His written Word. It starts from reading or hearing the Word, followed by meditating on the Word and then believing the word. When one diligently searches the scriptures, one will know the nature, the character, the promises and the will of God. Knowing the character of God gives one the opportunity to trust God, to be obedient to His word, and to be delighted in Him. Our Lord Jesus Christ says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matt.6:33) These things are those things required to sustain one on this earth. They are what to eat, what to drink and what to wear which our heavenly Father knows that we need. (Matt.6:31-32) They are things we should worry less about because, they are things that will last for a short while, while the kingdom of God is everlasting. Brethren, God is not far away from each of us, let us seek Him in the hope that we will find Him, for in Him we live and move and have our being. (Acts.17:27-28a) He is not a God who is found in some location. He is always present at all places. He is spirit, (John.4:24) so, He is not confined to physical locations. He is omnipresence because everything is happening in His presence. “Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him? Says the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? Says the Lord (Jer.23:24) It means God is not far away from us, so, when we diligently seek Him, we will find Him. May the good Lord grant you and every one of us the grace to persistently and patiently seek Him in a manner that we will find Him, in Jesus mighty name. Amen Evangelism Seek Jesus Christ today, He is waiting for you. He came to save you because He loves you. He is not far away from you. Rev. Shobayo Kayode The Gospel Study Centre
